About Me
Hello! My name is Mary Taylor, and I’m a Marion L. Brittain Fellow in the Writing and Communication Program at Georgia Tech. I received my PhD in English literature at Emory University, and I spent the last two years teaching British literature at Utah State University. Now I’m back in Atlanta teaching multimodal writing and communication to first-year Tech students. My research focuses on 18th and 19th-century British literature and culture, and I specialize in Romantic and Victorian poetry and the history of medicine. My current project examines human physiology as a shared interest of British poetic and medical discourses in the long nineteenth century. Before I began my PhD, I received my MA in Bioethics from Wake Forest University, and I integrate methods from health humanities and bioethics into my writing and literature curricula to explore historical and contemporary representations of health and illness.
